URGENT UPDATE: Authorities have discovered a body near the home of 19-year-old Camila Mendoza Olmos, who has been missing since Christmas Eve in San Antonio, Texas. The body was found shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday, only about 100 yards from Olmos’ residence, sparking fears of a tragic outcome in the ongoing search.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar confirmed that the body, located in an area with tall grass that had previously been searched, was wearing clothing similar to what Olmos was last seen in. “This is certainly not the outcome we were hoping for,” Salazar stated during a press briefing.
Olmos was reported missing after being last seen on the morning of December 24. Authorities indicated that she may have been in imminent danger at the time of her disappearance. Despite the grim discovery, Salazar mentioned that he does not currently suspect foul play.
“We’ve got to consider all possibilities, from disappearing willfully, to the possibility of self-harm, to somebody may have taken her,” Salazar added, highlighting concerns about her mental health.
Earlier on Tuesday, law enforcement released dash cam footage showing a figure, believed to be Olmos, walking on the side of a road. The individual appeared to match Olmos’ description, wearing a baby-blue and black hoodie, baby-blue pajama bottoms, and white shoes at the time of her disappearance.
In addition to the dash cam video, investigators are examining a doorbell camera recording showing Olmos searching her car for an unknown item before she left, taking only her car keys and potentially her driver’s license.
As of now, the body has not been officially identified, and the cause of death remains undetermined. The community is on edge as more details emerge regarding this tragic situation.
