Maryland Comptroller Moves Office to Bel Air, Enhancing Access

UPDATE: Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman has just announced the relocation of her branch office from Elkton in Cecil County to Bel Air in Harford County. The move, set for early to mid-February 2024, aims to enhance accessibility for taxpayers across the state.

The new office will occupy a former M&T Bank facility, a spacious 2,650 sq-ft building located on Emmorton Road. Lierman emphasized that this strategic relocation will significantly reduce the travel burden on taxpayers, allowing them to receive essential services closer to home. “Relocating to Harford County will allow us to meet more taxpayers where they are,” Lierman stated.

The last day for in-person services at the Elkton location will be December 31, 2023. After that date, Maryland residents can still access services virtually by appointment as the Comptroller’s office expands its online offerings. This initiative reflects Lierman’s commitment to customer service, ensuring that support remains available regardless of location.

Ana Garay, director of the Taxpayer Services Division, reiterated this commitment, saying, “Our commitment to customer service is unrelenting. Whether someone reaches us in-person, online, or by phone, we aim to provide timely, accurate, and quality support to taxpayers across Maryland and beyond.”

This relocation is part of a broader strategy, with the agency also planning to shift its offices in Frederick and Montgomery counties next year. Marylanders can currently access tax services in various locations, including Baltimore City and counties like Prince George’s and Wicomico.

As the transition unfolds, residents are encouraged to stay informed about new developments and to take advantage of the expanded virtual services. This move is not just about changing locations; it’s about enhancing the experience for Maryland taxpayers and ensuring they have access to critical financial services when they need them most.
