A Life Rooted in Family and Community

Born in 1938 in San Francisco, Carolyn was the eldest daughter of J.W. Mailliard and Margaret Field. She was also the first granddaughter of Ward and Kate Mailliard, families with extensive ties throughout the region, including places like San Geronimo, Cotati, and Yorkville. These connections shaped her upbringing and remained significant throughout her life.

During her childhood, Carolyn traveled with her family as her father served in the United States Army. After World War II, they returned to San Francisco, where she attended KD Burke School and Katherine Branson Girls School. She later graduated from Connecticut College for Women, establishing a strong educational foundation that would influence her community involvement.

In 1963, Carolyn made San Rafael her home, a place where she would reside for over six decades. Her passion for gardening earned her recognition at the Marin County Fair, where she proudly showcased her award-winning plants. In addition to gardening, she enjoyed knitting and devoted herself to genealogy, meticulously researching her family’s history to preserve it for future generations.

A Legacy of Service

Carolyn’s commitment to her community was evident in her extensive volunteer work. From 1972 to 1980, she held various roles within the Miller Creek Elementary School District and the San Rafael City Schools District. Her dedication to education highlighted her belief in the importance of giving back to the community she loved.

Throughout her life, Carolyn was surrounded by her family and friends, who cherished her deeply.
