Oscar Smith High School has achieved significant recognition in the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 6 football scene, with senior wide receiver Travis Johnson earning the prestigious title of Offensive Player of the Year. This accolade comes as a testament to his outstanding performance during the season, where he recorded 56 receptions for 1,157 yards and 15 touchdowns. Under the guidance of head coach Chris Scott, the Tigers secured their second consecutive championship, marking the fourth title in Scott’s tenure.
Johnson’s impressive season has solidified his commitment to play for the University of Michigan. He was joined on the first team by a talented group of teammates, including junior quarterback Lonnie Andrews, senior offensive lineman Dory Wilson, sophomore defensive lineman Lincoln Halliday, senior linebacker Malachi White, senior defensive back Jayden Covil, senior punt returner Quali Price, and senior all-purpose player Na’Rod Jarvis.
In addition to the first-team honors, the second team featured senior tight end Charles McGlown and Jarvis as a linebacker. Johnson’s contributions played a vital role in the Tigers’ successful season, culminating in a decisive 33-20 victory over Indian River on September 20, 2025, at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Virginia.
Old Dominion Football Transfers Update
In collegiate football news, Old Dominion University is experiencing significant changes as starting tight end Jailen Butler has announced his intention to enter the transfer portal. Represented by a reliable source, Butler stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 245 pounds, having accumulated 21 starts and 18 career receptions for 103 yards and one touchdown during his time with the Monarchs. He will join fellow teammates quarterback Colton Joseph and running back Trequan Jones in seeking new opportunities.
On a more positive note, Old Dominion has received a commitment from running back Hunter Patterson, who is transferring from Division II West Liberty. The recognition of Heaton and Sidaway extends Christopher Newport’s program-record streak to eight consecutive years with at least one player acknowledged for excellence both on the field and in the classroom. The Scholar All-Region awards are granted to junior or senior athletes who maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.40 and participate in a minimum of 75% of their team’s games.
