Model Anok Yai has shared her challenging health journey, revealing she was diagnosed with a congenital defect that significantly impacts her heart and lungs. On December 19, 2023, Yai, who recently earned the title of 2025 Model of the Year at the Fashion Awards, opened up about her condition through social media.
In her posts, Yai described her experience over the past year, explaining that what began as an asymptomatic condition gradually led to severe health issues. She noted the progression from a persistent cough to chest pains and, ultimately, episodes of coughing up blood. “I chose to work through this while trying to find the right doctor and the right time,” she wrote, emphasizing that she realized there would never be a perfect moment to address her health concerns.
Yai underwent a successful robotic lung surgery, performed by Dr. Robert Cerfolio and his team. This minimally invasive procedure is designed to remove damaged lung tissue and surrounding lymph nodes, according to the American Lung Association. Yai expressed her gratitude towards her medical team, stating, “I am forever indebted to them for giving me more time.”
She also thanked Dr. Harmik Soukiasian and the staff at Beverly Hills Concierge Health for identifying her condition. “Thank you to all the doctors and amazing nurses at NYU Langone Health,” she added, showing appreciation for the support she received during her treatment.
As Yai focuses on her recovery, she remains optimistic about returning to her career. “For now, I’m healing… but I’ll be back. See ya ❤️,” she concluded her message.
Her candid revelation about her health struggles sheds light on the importance of seeking medical attention, even when symptoms seem manageable. Fans and colleagues alike are sending their well wishes for her speedy recovery as she navigates this challenging chapter of her life.
