Harmony Co-op Raises $2,200 for Local Indigenous and Mental Health Causes

URGENT UPDATE: Harmony Food Co-op has just announced a significant fundraising achievement, raising a total of $2,200 for local organizations dedicated to supporting Indigenous communities and mental health. The annual Buy Local – Give Local event took place on November 28, and the impact is already being felt in Bemidji.

Thanks to overwhelming community support, Harmony Co-op was able to donate $1,100 to both MMIW 218 and Hope House. These funds are crucial for enabling both organizations to continue their essential work within the community.

MMIW 218, founded by Indigenous women from the Bemichigaamag area, is dedicated to providing advocacy, education, and support for families affected by the epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives. Their mission is not only vital but also deeply rooted in their connection to the land and community.

Meanwhile, Hope House offers vital support for individuals living with serious mental illnesses. Their approach focuses on connecting people to necessary daily care, social events, and services that foster stability and community engagement.

In a heartfelt statement, officials emphasized, “Thank you for showing up, shopping local, and making a difference. Together, we’re building a stronger community.” The ripple effect of this event highlights the power of local involvement and the urgent need for continued support for these critical causes right here in Bemidji.

As these organizations move forward, the community is encouraged to stay engaged and consider further support. The momentum from the Buy Local – Give Local event illustrates how collective efforts can transform lives and strengthen community ties.
