Soquel High Dominates Watsonville with 77-42 Victory in Basketball

UPDATE: Soquel High’s boys basketball team delivered an emphatic performance against Watsonville, winning 77-42 in a nonleague game held on January 5, 2024. Senior center Connor Corlett led the Knights with 16 points and 12 rebounds, showcasing a fast-paced offensive strategy that overwhelmed their opponents.

This decisive victory marks a significant turnaround for Soquel, which has struggled offensively in previous games. “We have been struggling offensively, but tonight we moved the ball better and created open shots for each other,” remarked Knights coach Chris Christensen. “I appreciate our team unselfishness and we consistently have three to four players near double-digits because of it.”

Soquel started strong, leading 29-11 at the end of the first quarter and extending their advantage to 48-16 by halftime. Senior Miles Johnson contributed 14 points, while juniors Ryan Grilli and Mason Esters added nine points each, with Grilli hitting three of the Knights’ eleven 3-pointers.

Watsonville’s efforts were led by senior forward/center Anthony Razo, who scored nine points. The Wildcatz, now 4-2 overall, will look to bounce back as they host Saint Francis on January 9, 2024, at 3 p.m.
