Urgent Power Restoration Efforts Underway for 98,000 in Clark County

UPDATE: Power restoration efforts are intensifying in Clark County, Washington, as utility crews race against time to repair extensive damage caused by strong winds and falling trees. The storm, which hit the region early Wednesday morning, left 98,000 customers without electricity at its peak around 1:30 a.m.. As of late Wednesday night, that number has dramatically decreased to approximately 5,000 customers still in the dark.

Crews from Clark Public Utilities are working tirelessly to restore power, with spokesperson Dameon Pesanti confirming, “Things have been very busy. We’re working to restore power, triage the damage, and build a plan.” Residents are urged to report any outages to assist crews in locating and addressing issues more efficiently.

Local resident Andrew Colver expressed his concern as he navigated his pitch-black neighborhood, saying, “We don’t miss electricity until it’s gone.” Colver, worried about his freezer full of salmon, noted the challenges of living without power, including having to charge his phone in his car.

The storm’s impact extends beyond residential areas; businesses are also feeling the effects. In downtown Camas, the popular restaurant Grains of Wrath has closed its doors after storm damage forced the cancellation of outdoor seating. The restaurant announced on social media that it will remain “closed until further notice due to storm damage.”

Local resident Linda Mallon shared her frustration as plans for dining out were disrupted. “Power is hit or miss throughout town. Some places are open, and right next door some are closed,” she said.

Pesanti has advised residents to exercise caution around downed power lines, particularly near standing water, stressing, “It’s not worth the risk.” As crews continue their restoration efforts, they are also preparing for the possibility of additional storms impacting the area.

Colver conveyed his gratitude to the utility workers, stating, “I know they’re working very hard. Thank you very much for all that you’re doing.”

As restoration efforts persist, residents are encouraged to stay updated on the situation and remain patient as utility crews work diligently to restore power throughout Clark County.
