Ampace and DG Matrix Launch Groundbreaking UL-Certified BESS

Ampace has partnered with DG Matrix to introduce the first UL-certified, grid-active Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) integrated with a multi-port solid-state transformer (SST) platform. This collaboration represents a significant advancement in power infrastructure designed for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, emphasizing safety and efficiency.

The announcement, made on December 16, 2025, in Raleigh, North Carolina, highlights how this new system aligns with prominent industry standards such as NVIDIA’s 800 VDC AI Factory and the Open Compute Project’s Mount Diablo initiative. Ampace selected DG Matrix after evaluating various technologies, ultimately choosing their multi-port SST for its proven performance and rapid dynamic power response capabilities.

Innovative Power Solutions for AI Data Centers

The integrated system combines Ampace’s advanced lithium-ion energy storage with DG Matrix’s innovative Power Router and SideCar platforms. This setup allows seamless integration into AI-native power pathways, offering essential features like real-time load smoothing and UPS-grade protection. As the demand for AI applications grows, so does the need for reliable power systems capable of handling extreme electrical demands, as noted by sources such as Axios and Power Electronics News.

With AI factories pushing the limits of power density, traditional infrastructure faces unprecedented challenges. The joint system developed by Ampace and DG Matrix is designed to address these issues by providing finely controlled ramp rates and grid-interactive behavior. This capability not only improves power quality but also reduces infrastructure costs and accelerates interconnection timelines.

Brad Li, President of Ampace, ESS, remarked, “AI is fundamentally reshaping how power infrastructure must be designed and operated. The future is not passive backup—it is grid-active, DC-native, and software-defined.” He emphasized the necessity for a new class of battery-enabled infrastructure that can meet the growing demands of AI workloads.

Collaboration to Drive Future Developments

Haroon Inam, CEO of DG Matrix, noted the synergy between the two companies: “By pairing their battery platform with our SST architecture, we are enabling operators to transition to grid-active, DC-native power systems capable of supporting the next generation of AI factories.” This partnership aims to validate, certify, and deploy integrated systems tailored for hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise AI data centers.

The collaboration sets the stage for enhanced resilience and operational flexibility, allowing customers to achieve faster deployment timelines. With both companies committed to advancing energy solutions, they are poised to redefine the landscape of power systems in the age of AI.

Ampace and DG Matrix’s innovative approach not only addresses current demands but also anticipates future challenges, ensuring that their technologies remain at the forefront of the industry. By integrating state-of-the-art energy storage with cutting-edge transformer architecture, they are paving the way for a more efficient, effective energy delivery system that meets the needs of modern data centers.
