Ruth Ilene Blair Miller, a beloved figure known for her unwavering devotion to family, passed away on November 18, 2025, at the age of 95. Ruth’s remarkable life began on March 25, 1930, in Superior, Arizona, and spanned multiple cities and diverse roles, reflecting her vibrant spirit and dedication to those she loved.
A Journey Through Life and Love
After World War II, the Blair family relocated to Ukiah, California, where Ruth completed her education, graduating from Ukiah High School in 1947. She began her career as a switchboard operator for Pacific Telephone, but her life took a significant turn when she married Albert V. Miller on April 7, 1952, at the submarine base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
Following Albert’s service in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service, the couple settled in Ukiah before embarking on a journey that would see them live in several cities across California due to Albert’s career with the California Highway Patrol. Over the next 28 years, they resided in places such as Bakersfield, Upper Lake, Glendale, and Palm Desert.
Throughout her life, Ruth balanced her commitments as a devoted wife and mother with various professional roles. She served as a secretary and bookkeeper for the Upper Lake Unified School District, worked as an administrative secretary at a Southern California hospital, and held a position at a Dean Witter stock exchange office. Her friendly demeanor made her a cherished front desk staff member at the La Quinta Golf Resort, where she welcomed guests, including politicians and celebrities.
Passions and Family Heritage
Ruth’s interests extended beyond her professional life. She had a profound love for sewing, photography, reading, writing, and genealogy, all of which showcased her creativity and curiosity. Her deep appreciation for family heritage was evident in her dedication to preserving family history.
After retiring, Ruth and Albert spent five years in Colorado before returning to California. In 2016, they moved to Henderson, Nevada, to be closer to their son, Kent. Following Kent’s passing in early 2025, Ruth lived with her granddaughter, Brianne Hidalgo, and her family, further emphasizing the importance of family ties in her life.
Ruth’s journey of love was mirrored in the devotion she shared with Albert. The couple celebrated an incredible 73 years together before Albert passed away just 12 hours after Ruth’s death, a testament to their profound bond.
Ruth is survived by her son, Keith E. Miller, and daughter, Kimberlee D. Schloss, along with her granddaughters, Brianne E. Hidalgo and Riley Anne Schloss, and her great-grandchildren, Vivian Rose Hidalgo and Emerson Rey Hidalgo. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, and her son, Kenton Miller, leaving behind cherished memories for her family and friends.
