Virginia Porter, a respected member of the local community, passed away on December 7, 2025, in Morgantown, West Virginia, at the age of 91. Born on November 7, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Irene Fankhauser Hawkins. Virginia was known for her dedication to her profession and community service.
For many years, Virginia worked in Medical Records at Ohio Valley Medical Center (OVMC). She was an active member of the First Christian Church in McMechen and held membership in the Order of the Eastern Star, Moundsville Chapter #86. Her contributions to both her workplace and her community left a lasting impact on those who knew her.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Porter, and is survived by her three children: two sons, Frederick D. (Kim) Porter of Marysville, Ohio, and Charles E. (Perri DeChristopher) Porter of Star City, as well as one daughter, Rena L. (Rodney) Carney of Columbus, Ohio. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Nicholas Carney, Sydney and Chase Porter, and Hannah, Hayley, and Shane Wilson.
The family will welcome friends on Thursday, December 11, from 14:00 to 16:00 and 18:00 to 20:00 at Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory located at 400 Jefferson Avenue in Moundsville. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday, December 12, at 11:00, led by Pastor Rodney Hubbs. An Order of the Eastern Star service will take place on Thursday at 18:00. Following the service, Virginia will be interred at Halcyon Hills.
