Victor “Vic Slick” Corral, a cherished figure in the Inland Empire radio scene, signed off from KOLA 99.9 for the final time after an impressive 31-year career. His last show aired on March 15, 2024, from 14:00 to 19:00, marking the conclusion of a significant chapter for both the station and its loyal listeners.
Corral joined KOLA in 1994 as a nighttime host and gradually advanced to become the station’s “Afternoon Drive” personality. Over the years, he became synonymous with classic hits radio, skillfully connecting listeners to beloved tracks spanning the 1960s to the 2000s. His engaging style and ability to resonate with multiple generations made his show a staple in the community.
Reflecting on his journey, Corral expressed deep gratitude for his time in radio. “Ever since I was 8, I’ve wanted to be on the radio. Growing up in the Inland Empire (Colton), I listened to KMEN, KFXM, KRLA, and KHJ,” he stated in a press release. “Working on the radio where I grew up? Totally a dream come true. And, combining my radio career with my love of classic car shows? Can’t get any better than that.”
Throughout his tenure, Corral also earned recognition beyond the airwaves. He became a prominent figure as the “Voice of the Rendezvous,” serving as the announcer for San Bernardino’s iconic Route 66 Rendezvous car show. His contributions to the classic car and cruising community were acknowledged in 2012 when he was inducted into the Cruisin’ Hall of Fame as a Lifetime Achievement Honoree.
Gary Springfield, program director at KOLA, praised Corral’s impact on the station and the community. “Vic has spent thirty-one incredible years doing what he does best, connecting with listeners in the Inland Empire,” Springfield said. “His impact is immeasurable, and our team and our listeners will deeply miss his presence.”
Corral’s retirement represents not just the end of a career but the closing of a significant part of local radio history. His passion for music and community has left an indelible mark on listeners who tuned in for his warmth and authenticity. As the airwaves adjust to his absence, many will remember the joy and connection he fostered for over three decades.
