Former Marin Star Cami Colpitts Clinches D-III Title on Birthday

BREAKING: In a thrilling NCAA Division III National Championship match, former Marin Academy standout Cami Colpitts scored the decisive goal, leading Washington University to a 2-1 victory over Emory on December 2, 2023. The match, which took place in St. Louis, marked not only a monumental win for the team but also a memorable celebration for Colpitts, who turned 20 years old on game day.

Colpitts netted the game-winner in the 70th minute, executing a stunning play from outside the 18-yard box, curling her shot into the far-side netting. This victory secures Washington’s second consecutive national title, finishing the season with an impressive record of 21-0-3 and remaining undefeated.

The Bears equalized just two minutes before Colpitts’ goal, responding to an earlier lead from Emory, who had scored in the 22nd minute. This championship adds to Washington’s previous titles in 2016 and 2024, solidifying their legacy in collegiate soccer.

Colpitts was recognized as one of three players from Washington to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. The sophomore finished the season with nine goals and three assists, showcasing her vital role in the team’s success.

IN OTHER SPORTS NEWS: In boys basketball, Brian Wright led the Archie Williams team to a 58-48 victory at the Piedmont Tournament, scoring 20 points and contributing six rebounds. His teammate Meezy Butler added 18 points along with key rebounds and assists, helping the Peregrine Falcons remain unbeaten at 5-0 this season.

Meanwhile, in wrestling, senior Sofia De Jesus of Archie Williams dominated the Albany Girls Tournament, taking first place in the 110-pound category with four pinfall victories and earning the title of Tournament MVP. Other notable performances came from Catania Dekeyrel of San Marin, who placed second at 155 pounds, and Braeden Carroll from Novato High, who triumphed in the heavyweight division at the Jim Lanterman Classic.

In men’s basketball, former Branson School standout Jase Butler scored 10 points for Colorado State in a close 91-86 victory against Colorado. Butler’s performance included making two three-pointers, bringing his season average to 7.9 points across nine games.
